  • Kodu - Grades 3-6 Windows PC Only (Craig Johnson)

    Kodu Game Lab: A fun, inviting and FREE way to introduce block coding to your students (Microsoft program). This workshop is pitched at an introductory level and assumes no knowledge of the software by the teacher.

  • Adventures with ScartchJr P-2 (Peter Abt)

    Prior to the Skills Expo, please install: https://apps.apple.com/au/app/scratchjr/id895485086 on the iPad you will bring to this workshop.

    This session will focus on Junior coding using the lower primary (P-2) app ScratchJr. It will introduce teachers to the basics of coding and show them how it links to link to the Australian Curriculum. Peter will demonstrate how to use the app, show classroom examples and share a range of resources. Participants will also have the opportunity to create a project.

  • Coding and Robotics P - 2 (Natalie McMaster, USC)

    This workshop will provide you with a clear understanding of the Digital Technologies curriculum and ICT Capability and how to teach computational thinking in Early Childhood. You will also learn how to integrate curriculum and teach children how to create simple algorithms using unplugged activities as well as activities using iPads and robotics such as the Code-a-pillar, Mouse Bot, Bee Bot, Blue Bot and Dash

  • Crash course – creating your own unit of work (P-6) (Kaye North)

    In 90 minutes times explore a variety of methods of exploring the Achievement Standards to design a unit of work from scratch. The unit of work may focus on one subject or may explore an integrated unit of work. Participants may wish to bring their laptop, curriculum documents etc.

  • Digi Chat - will encompass a range of topics

    DigiChats are provided for attendees to find out a little more about various topics and what may be avaiable to address specific school needs, etc. These topics may include:

    StemX, Bebras, Class Notebook, stands from commercial resource providers, signup to do the CSER MOOCs, etc

    Kaye North's Digichat will be a discussion that explores a range of alternatives to using C2C units of work in primary schools. We will explore partner units, alternative units and a range of resources already available.

    NOTE: They are not workshops and so not practical in nature - more an opportunity to find out what a topic may involve. If there is sufficient interest in a aspecific topic, we could consider offering it as a workshop at the next Skills Expo.

  • TinkerCAD (Craig Johnson)

    Tinkercad: A program to use in designing items to be printed using your school’s 3D printer – can also be used simply as a stand alone program without the printing – Maths capabilities as well as design and art

  • Year 3-6 Merge Cubes and Augmented Reality (Natalie McMaster, USC)

    This hands on workshop will provide you with an understanding of the types of activities you can do using Augmented Reality to engage students with learning content in a variety of curriculum areas. Participants are asked to Create a free account at https://miniverse.io in preparation for the session on their laptop and bring it along to the workshop, as you will learn how to upload 3D objects to the Merge Cube for viewing.

  • Book Creator for Beginners P-2 (Peter Abt)

    Prior to the Skills Expo, please install: https://apps.apple.com/au/app/book-creator-for-ipad/id442378070 on the iPad you will bring to this workshop.

    Book Creator is a digital book creation app that is well suited to lower primary (P-2). Come and join Book Creator Ambassador Peter Abt and explore the endless digital creation that book creator provides. Peter will walk participants through the basics of creating a book, show examples that link to the Australian Curriculum and create some group projects.

  • Crash course – creating a guide to making judgement (P-6) (Kaye North)

    In 90 minutes explore what it takes to make an effective and student friendly marking guide and assessment task sheet. We will co-construct one, in order to build the skills to make your own. We will use the assessment and moderation hub, assessment alignment planners and CARF documents to ensure we address the departments requirements. Participants may wish to bring their laptop, curriculum documents etc.
