This series of five full-day, kanohi ki te kanohi workshops is designed for provisionally certificated Year 0-3 teachers who are practising in their second year.
Our team of experienced facilitators will support you to explore research-based effective pedagogy while providing practical, hands-on opportunities to develop integrated approaches to student learning. Throughout the day participants will have opportunities to work collaboratively with their peers as well share stories of their practice. In addition to exploring the six standards for the teaching profession, integration of tikanga Māori, te reo and ways of honouring Te Tiriti will be apparent throughout the series.

Establishing a learning focused classroom culture is essential for educational success. This session builds on the understanding of positive classroom culture development from the first workshop in our year 1 programme. This workshop further explores pedagogies and activities that promote student engagement and achievement.
By fostering a respectful, collaborative culture where all voices are valued, teachers can create environments where strong teacher-student relationships form the foundation for meaningful learning. A strong classroom culture boosts students' confidence and curiosity, making learning a collective and joyful journey.

Working with a rich literacy programme will complement structured literacy approaches and bring the refreshed English curriculum to life. This collaborative, interactive session will inspire you to use new activities to engage your learners. You will explore the use of both formal and informal assessments to inform your planning and practice.

Our identities as people who use functional maths in our lives impacts on how we teach maths in the classroom. Effective mathematical practices support student engagement, mastery of concepts and procedural fluency. Teacher knowledge of task types, attention to vocabulary and mathematical communication supports development of student mathematical thinking, justification and discussion.
This session will focus on:
- using formative and formal assessments to design learning for students
- variety of task types
- nurturing mathematical identities
- rich tasks and engaging activities
