Welcome by the Director, South East Region, Early Childhood Education and Care
Underpinned by Queensland's statewide approach to transitions, this session will offer insights from South East Regional Neighbourhood Networks. A range of practical examples will be shared, with a focus on strategies to support children's successful transition to school. The session will showcase successful partnerships that have been built as a result of the Neighbourhood Network approach, demonstrating alignment to the Trusting partnerships principle described in the Department of Education and Training's Supporting successful transitions: School decision-making tool. The perspectives of State School and Early Childhood Education and Care service staff will be shared.

This session will be focused on the commitment for early identification and intervention initiatives for raising healthy children in our community. A co-presentation from Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service's Community Child Health Serviceswill share insights for working collaboratively with families and the broader community to achieve positive health, wellbeing, growth and developmental outcomes for children.

Keeping Children Safe

This session will explore approaches to support the learning, social and emotional development of children. Representatives from the South East Region will share their knowledge and insights ranging from symptoms and signs of unsafe environments, preventions, myths, research and success stories of children's safety. Tips and advice will be shared on how to start reciprocal relationships between schools, community groups, parents, families and children.

In this session two Directors from an Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) service will share how they have captured a culture of inclusiveness to enhance children's learning and development. Supporting successful transitions - Effective pedagogy and practice
Location: Paradise Showroom (Ground Floor)
Using age-appropriate pedagogies in the early years of schooling plays a lead role in supporting children to be actively engaged, creative and successful learners. This session will unpack the role of effective pedagogy and practice as an important element of the Department of Education and Training's Supporting successful transitions: School decision-making tool. Practical classroom examples of effective age-appropriate pedagogies will be explored to support holistic learning and development for children.

Children's lifelong learning is enabled during the attendance at a high quality kindergarten program. The conversation begins with community partners and networks, supported by the South East regional Early Childhood Education and Care team, to identify and develop collaborative actions and strategies. Ganyjuu Support Services, who operate the Logan Children and Family Centre, and Burragah Community Kindergarten, have developed an effective engagement and support model for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to increase enrolment and attendance in kindergarten. Collaborative solutions for identified key barriers to participation will be explored during this session.

Enhancing home learning environments

This session will share strategies for creating effective playgroup settings which foster environments to support the needs of children and families. The Abecedarian Approach is discussed as an example of such a strategy which empowers families to create effective and developmentally appropriate learning environments for children.

Building on resources developed by the Department of Education and Training in partnership with Early Childhood Australia, this presentation will showcase how Queensland Early Childhood and Care (ECEC) educators and services have used the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) data. Insights will be shared for ways in which the AEDC data has been used to inform programming, planning and quality improvement, while also supporting children's successful transition to school.
