ABSTRACT THEMES
- Cities, settlements & infrastructure - Where we live, how we live, the pipes, the parks. Climate change challenges how we live healthily and happily in cities, and how we manage and construct the infrastructure of the urban environment.
- Adaptation for natural systems, natural systems for adaptation - Nature sits in the middle of needing protection and being a protector in the climate-nature-society nexus. How do we build climate-ready conservation strategies? How do we implement nature-based solutions?
- Decisions & governance - Trade-offs, effective adaptation, enabling adaptation, best practice, suitable governance mechanisms, enabling settings. These are all important structural and systematic aspects of adaptation. What are we learning? Are we doing things better? Can we transform?
- Tell it, talk it - Communication is at the heart of understanding climate risk. How do we talk and learn to change behavior and build confidence to make decisions? How do we integrate and value different knowledge systems?
- Social & economic dimensions of adaptation - Climate change impacts all aspects of society, and social and economic dimensions determine how we choose to respond. This theme considers topics such as: identifying and overcoming vulnerability and inequity; understanding and enhancing the adaptive capacity of individuals and organisations, economic and financial instruments to support adaptation measures.
- Adaptation in practice - Adaptation is often described a s learning by doing. We invite presenters from all aspects of adaptation practice and thinking to share an innovative action, success or lesson from implementing adaptation.
- Understanding & assessing hazards & risk - Accounting for multiple hazards, cascading and compounding risks. How can they be anticipated? How can we prepare for them?
- Other - If your abstract does not fit a theme.
