Position: Reconstructive Urologist

Dr Justin Chee is a urological surgeon sub specialising in reconstructive urology. He and his team at Epworth HealthCare have a patient-centred practice aimed at achieving optimal quality of life outcomes in particular for urethral strictures, male urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction.

Organisation: Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

Position: Paediatric Oncologist

Dr Rachel Conyers is a Paediatric Oncologist who completed fellowships in Adolescent Young Adult Sarcoma, Bone Marrow Transplantation and Adolescent and Young Adult Haematology. Dr Conyers works as a Bone Marrow Transplant Physician at The Royal Children's Hospital. With an interest in Adolescent and Young Adult Lymphoma she acts as a lead in this disease subset at The Royal Children's Hospital with a cross appointment in the adult Sector at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.In 2016 Dr Conyers was awarded a Clinican Scientist Fellowship with the Murdoch Children's Research Institute, a 5 year post that will support her research into Pharmacogenomics/genetics of Chemotherapy toxicity and further secure the foundations of a developing research career.

Position: Director of Operations, Radiation Oncology

Mr Paul Fenton has been at Epworth HealthCare for over 5 years and led the establishment of Epworth Radiation Oncology at the Freemasons and Richmond sites as the Director of Operations. Last year, he was seconded to the Epworth Geelong and South West Regional Cancer Centre as Director of Commissioning, overseeing the successful operational opening of both sites in July 2016.

Returning to his substantive role, Paul manages the two metro and Warrnambool services. With a strong history of oncology information system, process design, and project management Paul is working with the vendor of Epworth’s IT system to establish an application supported Survivorship Program.

Position: Group Chief Executive

Dr Lachlan Henderson is a medical practitioner who has 30 years’ experience in the health industry, joining Epworth in February 2017.

Lachlan’s previous executive roles include CEO St John of God (SJG) Subiaco Hospital, Executive Director of SJG Perth Northern Region, CEO SJG Pathology and the Group Director Medical Services and Strategy, SJG. Prior to taking on these roles, he was a General Practitioner for more than a decade. Critical to his success has been his focus on quality patient care and staff satisfaction while enhancing the business and financial outcomes for the organisation.

In his career, Lachlan has held a variety of University and Board appointments. He is currently Vice President of the Australian Private Hospitals Association (APHA) and Chair of Cricket Australia.

Position: Deputy Head of the Department of Medical Oncology

Associate Professor Michael Jefford is Deputy Head of the Department of Medical Oncology at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and is Director of the Australian Cancer Survivorship Centre, a Richard Pratt legacy. His clinical practice, and part of his clinical research, focuses on the management of people with gastrointestinal cancers. He has extensive experience designing interventions to improve the supportive care outcomes of people affected by cancer. He has published 130 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters and has presented work at several international meetings covering cancer control, clinical oncology and psycho-oncology.

Position: GP Principal

Dr Richard Kidd is a GP principal of a multidisciplinary Brisbane practice of 8 doctors hosting GP Registrars, medical, nursing and psychology students.  He is a past president of AMA Queensland, and a Fellow of the Australian Medical Association.  Richard is the Brisbane North PHN Clinical Lead and sits on the Refugee Health Taskforce, South East Queensland Refugee Primary Health Care Clinical Advisory Group, South East Queensland Refugee Primary Health Partnership Advisory Group. He sits on the Metro North Health and Hospital Service Medicines Advisory Committee and the Outpatients Governance Committee, the Brisbane North Health Alliance, the Metro North Communities Palliative Care Committee, the Persistent Pain Queensland State-wide Steering Committee, the Palliative Care Education Steering Committee and the Queensland State-wide Reference Group for Care at the End of Life. 

He is also Chair of Scriptwise, a Director of Peachtree Perinatal Wellness, Co-founder of Doctors4Refugees and a member of the Queensland Clinical Senate and its Integrated Care Organising Committee and is a University of Queensland Curriculum Advisor and Presenter in the Master of Medicine General Practice Aged Care course.

Richard has been a Board member of Palliative Care Queensland, worked on Palliative Care Australia Committees including the Palliative Approach in Residential Aged Care and GP engagement in the Palliative Approach and he was a member of the Cancer Council Queensland Patient and Community Services Sub Committee.

Position: Executive Director, Epworth Freemasons

Mr David Nowell joined Epworth as the Executive Director of Epworth Freemasons in July 2014 and is responsible for the strategic, operational and financial performance of Epworth’s 3 sites in East Melbourne – Clarendon Street, Victoria Parade and Epworth Cliveden on Simpson Street. The division, having just completed a major refurbishment project, is embarking on a major redevelopment at the Clarendon Street, which includes a comprehensive cancer centre environment within the new Grey Street Centre.

David has more than 25 years experience in the health care sector both private and public including six years in the USA and 15 years in senior management and executive roles.

David was previously at Cabrini Brighton with the dual role of General Manager for Cabrini Brighton and Health Contracts for Cabrini Health. During this period he led Cabrini Brighton through a major redevelopment (2007-09) including associated business development and service growth. He also served as General Manager of Cabrini Rehabilitation (Hopetoun Street Campus) until 2010.

In previous executive and senior leadership roles David was Executive Director, Health Contracts at Epworth and a Senior Hospital Manager at Medibank Private.

David also has a strong clinical and leadership background from earlier in his career.

Position: Director of Molecular Oncology and Cancer Immunology

Miles Prince is a Haematologist and Professor/Director of Molecular Oncology and Cancer Immunology at Epworth Health Care. His research focuses on clinical translational aspects of cancer immunology, genomics and epigenetics. He holds numerous national and international grants and has led numerous clinical trials of new agents in myeloma, lymphoma and leukaemia. He has published over 390 journal articles and his work has been recognised with an Order of Australia and Fellowship of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.

Professor Prince is a member of Australian, American and European Societies of Haematology and Oncology, and is on the boards of International Society of cutaneous lymphoma, International Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia Foundation and chairman of the Medical Scientific Advisory Group of Myeloma Australia.

Position: Medical Oncologist

Dr Ayesha Saqib is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). She completed her Medical Oncology Specialist training at Royal Melbourne Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. She has keen interest in management of breast cancer, hepatobiliary and GI cancer, Lung cancer and Neuro-oncology. She is passionate about providing her patients with an exceptional standard of care. She believes in latest evidence based approach for her oncology patients. She regularly attend national and international Oncology conferences with active participation to enhance her knowledge of new modality of treatment available across the world. Her aim is to improve patient outcome by incorporating novel agents and new treatment modalities in day to day cancer patient management.

Position: Radiation Oncologist

Dr Kevin So is a Radiation Oncologist at Epworth HealthCare, South West Regional Cancer Centre and Mount Gambier and Districts Health Service. After graduating from Monash University, he completed his specialty training in Radiation Oncology in 2015 through the William Buckland Radiotherapy Centre, Alfred Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute. ​

Organisation: Melbourne IVF

Position: Fertility Specialist, Gynaecologist and Reproductive Endocrinologist

Associate Professor Stern is a gynaecologist and fertility specialist. She is the head of reproductive services unit at The Royal Women’s Hospital (RWH) and the Clinical Director of Melbourne IVF. She is also the head of clinical research at Melbourne IVF and the medical coordinator for the Fertility Preservation Service at RWH and MIVF. 

Associate Professor Kate Stern has coordinated the Fertility Preservation Service (FPS) at The Royal Women’s Hospital and Melbourne IVF for over 20 years. The FPS program aims to maximise fertility for women at risk of infertility and ovarian failure as a result of chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy treatment. The FPS was the first dedicated service for fertility preservation in Australia and continues to lead clinical programs and research in this area of medicine. The team have published widely in the area in peer reviewed journals and are regularly asked to present this work nationally and internationally.

Position: Specialist Breast Cancer Surgeon

Dr Chantel Thornton is a specialist Breast Cancer Surgeon. She was Dux of the University of Tasmania Medical School graduating with First Class Honours and was awarded eight University Prizes. She also completed a Bachelor of Medical Sciences and received a scholarship to complete an Honours Degree at the University of Hong Kong in 1998. She undertook surgical training at the Alfred Hospital and a Fellowship in Breast Cancer Surgery at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2010.

In 2015 she received an Australian Financial Review and Westpac 100 Women of Influence Award. She is a Member of Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
Her practice solely focuses on the surgical and multidisciplinary management of breast cancer and includes risk reducing mastectomy, sentinel node biopsy and nipple sparing mastectomy.


Chantel sits on several Philanthropic National boards and has previously held a position as an Honorary Lecturer at Monash University.


She has private rooms at Epworth Hospital – Agora Centre for Women’s Health, and works at the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre- Peter Mac Callum Cancer Centre and St. Vincent's Breast Screen.

Position: Director, Cancer Services Institute

Dr Stephen Vaughan is the Director of the Epworth HealthCare Cancer Services Institute.  He is a Locum Consultant Physician in Haematology/Medical Oncology in various public and private clinics throughout Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania.  

Dr Vaughan has also worked as a consultant to the Health Insurance Commission on high-cost drugs and the Victorian DHS on Oncology IT, and works as an expert witness in the areas of cancer, blood diseases and transfusion medicine.

Previous directorships include:
Board Director of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute for 6 years and Chairman of Cell Therapies Pty Ltd.  He was Director of the Grampians Integrated Cancer Service (GICS) for 7 years which is part of the Victorian Government’s cancer program.

Position: Medical Oncologist

Dr Allan Zimet is a medical oncologist with an interest in the treatment of gastrointestinal (colon, stomach, oesophageal and pancreatic) cancers, lung cancer, lymphoma, myeloma, breast cancer and central nervous tumours. He provides compassionate honest care with a patient focus, maintaining and improving quality of life. Allan also tutors medical students and teaches palliative care at the Austin and Epworth.
