Rural and remote general practitioners have an essential role in the care of patients with chronic heart failure throughout their healthcare journey. The GP is crucial in recognising the initial symptoms of chronic heart failure and organising further tests or referral to a specialist, and subsequently initiating and optimising chronic heart failure treatments with proven prognostic benefit. GPs may also need to manage the acutely unwell patient in a emergency setting and arrange hospitalisation.
This one and half day workshop is to provide rural doctors with cross domain, team based learning opportunities. The workshop will use a variety of teaching methods such as interactive lectures, skills stations and realistic patient simulation scenarios of acute cardiac emergencies.

Learning Objectives

1. At the end of the workshop delegates will be able to: Diagnose and appropriately manage chest pain in simulated scenarios
2. Perform CPR and Defibrillation skills in line with the current ARC ACLS & BLS algorithms (not assessed and does not meet RACGP CPR high level requirement)
3. Identify and manage heart failure in simulated scenarios
4. Implement ‘crisis resource management principles’ in simulated cardiac emergencies.
