A senior interventional cardiologist with twenty years' experience, Martin trained at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and completed specialty training in coronary stenting at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

His primary interest is in the treatment of chest pain or discomfort and he specialises in stenting coronary arteries and bypass grafts. He uses non-invasive CT screening of heart arteries extensively. He also manages high blood pressure, heart valve dysfunction and cardiac arrhythmias.

Martin is active in teaching and is a member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

A/Prof Michael Wong has particular interests in device implantation (leadless pacemakers/subcutaneous defibrillators/CRT) and treatment of complex atrial/ventricular arrhythmias using contemporary catheter ablation techniques. His PhD research described novel findings on predictors and mechanisms for lethal cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. He has received numerous awards including the Ralph Reader Prize from the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand/World Congress of Cardiology, the Young Investigator Award from the North American Heart Rhythm Society and the National Heart Foundation Paul Korner Innovation Award. Michael is currently Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at Western Health and a National Heart Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow.

A/Prof Monique Watts is a heart failure cardiologist and specialist in women’s heart disease who works at Epworth Freemasons and the Alfred.

Dr Watts completed advanced training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital before undertaking a fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplantation at the Alfred Hospital. Dr Watts manages patients with all types of heart failure in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. In recent years Dr Watts has also established a cardiac clinic in North Central Victoria to improve access to specialist care for rural citizens. Dr Watts has also lead the development of the Women’s Heart Clinic at the Alfred Hospital which offers specialised care for patients suffering conditions more commonly seen in women such as the syndrome of MINOCA and contributory causes such as coronary artery vasospasm, spontaneous coronary artery dissection and microvascular dysfunction. Dr Watts is actively involved in clinical research, with multiple current projects in progress in the area of women’s heart disease. She also teaches for the University of Melbourne Clinical School.

Associate Professor Ron Dick is the Director of Cardiac Services Clinical Institute at Epworth HealthCare and the former Chair of Epworth’s Group Medical Advisory Council.

His specialties and interests include interventional cardiology, management of acute coronary syndrome including myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, clinical research and medical education.
 

Associate Professor Sonny Palmer is a consultant cardiologist with subspecialty expertise in coronary artery and adult structural heart disease.

He is the Clinical Lead of both the Structural Heart and Heart-Brain Programs at St Vincent’s Hospitals.

Sonny’s clinical interest includes cardiovascular risk factor assessment and management of coronary artery disease including coronary angiograph, percutaneous coronary intervention and invasive coronary imaging. He is on the STEMI on call service at both The Alfred and St Vincent’s Hospitals.  

A/Prof Soon is a Melbourne and Adelaide trained interventional cardiologist. He has a strong interest in complex coronary intervention and structural heart intervention such as transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and PFO/ASD closure. He works at Epworth Richmond and Epworth Eastern Hospitals. He is also a consultant cardiologist at Box Hill Hospital. He provides clinical teachings to medical students from the University of Melbourne and Monash University.

Associate Professor Neil Strathmore has expertise in pacemaker & defibrillator implantation, follow up and removal. However, he is also interested in arrhythmias, valve problems, heart failure and general cardiology. He is widely recognised as a leading teacher of medical students.

Associate Professor Cox is an interventional cardiologist with experience in managing patients with coronary disease, heart attacks and chest pain.

Nicholas was an early advocate for the use of radial access for coronary intervention and has published in this field. His areas of expertise are coronary angiography, stenting, myocardial infarction and heart failure management.

Alex is a cardiologist at the Austin Hospital and lead physician in the Cardio-Haematology service where she manages patients with cardiac issues who have cancer. Her other interests include women’s cardiac health and imaging for structural intervention. She has published extensively, and her manuscripts have been featured in the world’s top cardiology journals. She was recently awarded scholarships from the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, the National Health and Medical Research Council, National Heart Foundation and the Epworth Medical Research Foundation to undertake a PhD on “Cardiovascular Risk Reduction in Cancer Patients” through the University of Melbourne.

Alex has developed a smartphone based cardiovascular risk reduction program called ‘BreastMate’ aimed to care for the cardiac health of women with breast cancer. This has been rolled out in a state-wide randomised controlled trial called SMART-BREAST.

Chris is an advanced cardiac imaging and general cardiologist with an interest in structural echocardiography, cardiac MRI, cardiac CT and pericardial disease.

Chris undertook his Basic Physician and Cardiology training at St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney and subsequently completed a PhD in Cardiac MRI in the Assessment of the Cardiac Allograft at the Victor Chang Cardiac Institute through UNSW, supported by scholarships from the National Heart Foundation and Australian Government Research Training Program.

Chris is a staff specialist in Cardiology at the Alfred Hospital. His interests include Advanced Multimodality Cardiac Imaging, Structural Cardiac Imaging and pericardial diseases.

Con is an intensive care specialist at Epworth Richmond. He is currently a Fellow of both The Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the College of Intensive Care Medicine. He has served as Director of Critical Care Medicine at Epworth Eastern, a Senior Intensivist at Epworth Richmond, and practised Perioperative Medicine at Epworth Richmond and Eastern private hospitals.

He has also taught both at an undergraduate and postgraduate level for many years.

Dr David Rollo is a cardiologist with Epworth HealthCare.  His special interests are the way in which doctors think and how they communicate risk. He has particular interest in Bayesian reasoning, and in the disconnect between cognitive conceptualisation and behavioural change.

George is an interventional cardiologist, primarily based at Epworth Richmond but sees patients at the Austin Medical Centre and Box Hill Hospital. He obtained his medical degree at Melbourne University and his cardiology training was at the Austin & Repatriation hospital.

He has developed a strong interest in training up and coming cardiologists as well as being involved in research activities at both hospitals.

Hendrik is a cardiologist with a special interest in heart failure management. Hendrik graduated from the University of Melbourne, undertook physician training at Royal Melbourne Hospital, and then advanced training in General Medicine at the Alfred, followed by Cardiology advanced training at Epworth Richmond and Flinders Medical Centre. In 2011, Hendrik did Fellowship training in Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at The Alfred.

Hendrik's clinical interests include management of refractory heart failure; acute decompensated heart failure; the role of device therapy in heart failure treatment; use of inotropic support in specific heart failure settings; pulmonary hypertension; and cardiac amyloidosis.

Dr Johns has worked at the Austin Hospital since 1987 and at Epworth since 1984. Her main interests are echocardiography, management of valve disease and management of heart disease in pregnancy.

She is the Cardiologist appointed to the Perinatal Unit at Mercy Hospital for Women. The Unit provides multi-disciplinary management of pregnancy in women with heart disease. 

Dr Johns was awarded an AM in 2015, for services to cardiology as a clinician, teacher and mentor and for service to the not-for-profit sector.

Dr Matias Yudi is a structural and interventional cardiologist at Epworth Richmond and Austin Health. Matias became a Fellow of the

Matias is passionate about medical research and academia. He has published extensively, and his manuscripts have been featured in some of the world's top cardiology journals. He was awarded scholarships from the National Health Foundation and National Health and Medical Research Council to undertake his PhD on 'Optimising Clinical Outcomes in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndromes' through the University of Melbourne, which he completed in 2019.

Dr Samer Noaman is an interventional cardiologist and researcher. He performs coronary and valvular heart interventions in addition to general cardiology practice.

He graduated with honours from Baghdad University in Iraq in 2008 and undertook Physician and Cardiology training at Western and Alfred Health in Victoria. He completed a PhD through the University of Melbourne focusing on improving the outcomes and recovery of patients following heart attacks and investigated the current role of coronary physiology in clinical practice. He has published in several peer-reviewed journals and presented at multiple national and international conferences.

He undertook sub-specialty fellowship training in structural heart disease interventions at the Alfred Hospital and won the prestigious Geoff Mews Memorial Fellows Prize for his work in cardiogenic shock advanced therapies in 2020.

Dr Subodh Joshi is a consultant cardiologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital specialising in non-invasive cardiac imaging.  He obtained his medical degree from the University of Melbourne and then completed his internal medicine, cardiology and echocardiography training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.  Subsequently he spent five years doing research and training in cardiac CT, MRI and echocardiography in Washington DC, Toronto and Boston.  He also completed a Masters of Public Health Degree at Harvard University.

Mr Aubrey Almeida graduated MBBS from the University of Melbourne in 1986 and two years later undertook four years of military services with the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps. He completed his cardiothoracic training in 1999, training at the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane and the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne, whereupon he undertook a graduate Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, USA. He commenced practice in 2001 as a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon and is a member of the senior medical staff at Monash Medical Centre and Epworth HealthCare. Aubrey is a member of the team that pioneered robotic surgery in Australia.

Aubrey is the Vice President of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons and a Deputy Director of the Epworth Cardiac Sciences Clinical Institute. He is an examiner for the Royal Australian College of Surgeons. He has interests in valvular heart disease, minimally invasive surgery, adult congenital heart disease and surgical education.

Mr Marco Larobina is a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at the Epworth Richmond Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne Private Hospital, and One Heart Cardiology. He has a special interest in adult cardiac surgery, minimally invasive surgery, adult congenital heart disease, thoracic surgery, and aortic valve surgery.

He completed his training at the Alfred Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital, and Royal Children’s Hospital. Following this, Marco completed a Fellowship at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge and Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston and obtained his Fellowship from Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Mr Peter Skillington is a specialist cardiothoracic surgeon. He also performs routine coronary artery bypass graft, heart valve and aortic surgery. 

He is Director of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit of the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Deputy Director of the Cardiac Sciences Clinical Institute, Epworth Hospital.

His chief research and clinical interests are aortic valve replacement utilising the ROSS procedure, for which he is a world expert, an operation which he has pioneered in this country. His other main area of interest is in adult congenital cardiac surgery, an area in which he has performed over 900 congenital cardiac surgery procedures since the 1990s. 

He has previously been President of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (ANZSCTS), and also he has been Chairman of the Board of Studies for Cardiothoracic Surgery Training in Australia and New Zealand (RACS).

Prof Antony Walton is an Interventional Cardiologist based at Epworth Hospital, and is a Professor in Medicine at Monash University. He is Deputy Director of Cardiology and Head of the Cardiac Labs at The Alfred, and is an Honorary Research Fellow at The Baker Institute. His training in Cardiology was at the Alfred Hospital and further postgraduate training in Interventional Cardiology was undertaken at Stanford University Medical Centre in the United States.

His professional interests include general and interventional cardiology, with particular interests in structural heart disease and hypertension. The developing areas of percutaneous valve replacement and interventional techniques for the treatment of common conditions such as hypertension are particular interests. He has published his clinical and research work in peer reviewed manuscripts on subjects including the novel techniques of percutaneous aortic valve replacement and renal denervation for refractory hypertension.

Jayme is a car­dio­tho­racic sur­geon trained in adult and pae­di­atric car­diac surgery. He is cur­rent­ly Direc­tor of Car­dio­tho­racic Surgery at Flinders Med­ical Cen­tre, a Direc­tor of Ade­laide Car­dio­tho­racic, and Staff Spe­cial­ist at Women’s and Children’s Hos­pi­tal (Ade­laide) and Roy­al Dar­win Hos­pi­tal. He was recent­ly pro­mot­ed to Pro­fes­sor, Car­dio­tho­racic Surgery at Flinders University.

Jayme is the new­ly appoint­ed Clin­i­cal Lead for the Statewide Car­diac Care Clin­i­cal Net­work, at the CEIH.

Professor Lim graduated from Monash University with the degrees of BMedSc, MBBS and PhD. He is a leading cardiologist in the Asia Pacific region, serving as the Director of National Heart Centre and Chairman of National Medical Research Council in Singapore for 5 years. Prof. Lim pioneered coronary intervention in China in 1986, and helped to establish numerous coronary intervention units throughout China. In 1995 he founded the Xiamen University Medical College and was appointed its inaugural Dean for a five-year term.

Vikki Hannah is a nurse practitioner, specialising in heart failure qt Northern Health. Her role involves reviewing, educating, and providing recommendations for patients in hospital, the innovative Virtual Ward with Hospital in the Home, Nurse Practitioner Clinic and in the community and general practice.

 In 2015, Vikki developed the Heart Failure Model of Care at Northern Health. The Heart Failure service has expanded to cater for the demand of the population growth in the northern region of Melbourne.
