David obtained his PhD in neuropharmacology from the University of Edinburgh in the UK. He then spent six years in the USA, first at the University of Pittsburgh and later at the Robert S. Dow neurobiology laboratories in Portland, Oregon. Since 2004, he has been at the RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Dublin, Ireland where he is professor of molecular physiology and neuroscience. David’s interests are the causes, diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy, with a particular focus on using preclinical and translational models to study epigenetics and noncoding RNA. Since 2017 he has been director of the FutureNeuro research centre for translational brain science. He is the author of over 250 publications and the new book about microRNAs called 'Fine-Tuning Life'.

Tony Marson is a consultant neurologist and epileptologist at The Walton Centre, Professor of Neurology and Executive Dean of the Institute of Molecular and Integrative Biology at The University of Liverpool , NIHR Senior Investigator and Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. The team at The Walton Centre runs one of the largest epilepsy services in the UK, providing a comprehensive multidisciplinary service from first seizure to complex epilepsy. His research has focussed upon the assessment of treatments and interventions for epilepsy. He has coordinated two of the largest randomised controlled trials in epilepsy including the SANAD and SANAD II trials. He also led the National Audit of Seizure Management in Hospitals (NASH). He is Director of the Liverpool Neuroscience Centre and research programme Director for The UK Epilepsy Research Institute and previous board member of the European Academy of Neurology.

Dr Theodore is Senior Investigator, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Professor of Neurology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and Past President of the American  Epilepsy Society.  He received his BA degree from Harvard College and MD from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology (emeritus) and Epilepsy Medicine. He received the American Epilepsy Society Outstanding Clinical Investigator  and ILAE Ambassador for Epilepsy Awards, and the Gold Medal for Outstanding Achievements in Clinical Medicine from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Past Chair of the American Academy of Neurology Epilepsy Section, and was Co-Editor-in-Chief of Epilepsy Research. He has worked with the Pan American Health Organization, World Health Organization and World Federation of Neurology on international projects and in teaching and research at the University of Zambia.  His research focuses on functional imaging in epilepsy using MRI and PET.

Dr. Wirrell completed her medical school at the University of British Columbia, followed by a residency in Child Neurology at Dalhousie University in Canada. She is currently Professor and Chair of Child Neurology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota.

She has integrally involved with the International Child Neurology Society for many years, serving as an ICNA Executive Board member since 2018, as Chair of the ICNA Research Committee from 2018-2022 and she is currently Co-Chair of the Bylaws and Constitution Committee. She served on the core Scientific Committee of the 2022 ICNC meeting in Antalya, Turkey and is Deputy Chair of the 2024 ICNC in Cape Town, South Africa.

Dr. Wirrell was the former Co-Chair of the Nosology and Definitions Task Force of the ILAE, and currently serves on both the Pediatrics and Surgical Therapies Commissions and the Terminology and the SNOMED Task Forces. She Co-Chairs the Pediatric Medical Therapies Task Force. She is Co-Editor-in-Chief of Epilepsy.com, the public education website for the Epilepsy Foundation of America. 

Dr. Wirrell has a keen interest in Neurology Education and served as the Vice-Chair of the Neurology Examination Committee of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada from 2009-14. She currently is the Program Director of the Child and Adolescent Neurology Residency at Mayo Clinic and served as Co-Chair of the Pellock Epilepsy Symposium, an educational program offered to all North American final year Child Neurology trainees through the Child Neurology Society from 2016-2023. Her research interests include optimizing care for children with Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathies, epidemiology and co-morbidities of pediatric epilepsy and she has published over 270 peer-reviewed articles and numerous book chapters.

She has been the recipient of several awards including the AES Kiffin Penry award for Excellence in Epilepsy Care and the Mayo Clinic Distinguished Clinician award.
