This virtual course is specifically designed for professionals seeking to expand their knowledge to be on the leading frontier of the food and fibre landscape in New Zealand. Retaining a consumer centric view, the course has a focus on three key themes: the impact of innovation, trade and regulation, and the evolution of circular food systems.
New Zealand and international experts will deliver course content and facilitate sessions including KPMG Global Head of Agribusiness, Ian Proudfoot, leading lecturers from the University of Waikato, and other guest presenters.
The course covers five topics, and participants have the flexibility to work through the material at their own pace. In addition, they will participate in one 2 hour live virtual workshop each week, where they can engage in discussions related to the course content.
This course is delivered in a blended format with content including pre-recorded videos, short readings, discussion sessions and an optional half-day virtual workshop at the end of the programme (see Short Course Workshop Schedule below).
Learning Outcomes
Participants who successfully complete this course should be able to:
- Understand the future of food and nutrition; examining the critical factors that shape it, including future nutrition options, delivery methods, and alternative food systems.
- Understand supply chains in New Zealand; comparing consumer-centric value-web and supply chains, benefits of Free Trade Agreements, solutions to global supply chain challenges, and value chain design, market partner selection, and growth metrics.
- Explore the multifaceted impact of innovation on the food and fibre sector; including the transformational effects of digital and physical innovation, the use of biological innovation to increase food security, and the importance of managing co-products and by-products in the supply chain.
- Learn about food safety evolution; using storytelling and provenance to reach consumers, using technology to tackle challenges and communicate with stakeholders and consumers, and make informed business decisions to address issues around food safety, traceability, and provenance.
