63rd Annual Scientific Meeting of the IADR ANZ Division – Cairns

It is our great pleasure to welcome Professor Sašo Ivanovski as our first plenary speaker at the 2024 IADR Conference in Cairns, presenting a lecture on.3D printed scaffolds for alveolar bone regeneration: Benchside to chairside.

Sašo Ivanovski is the Head of School at the University of Queensland School of Dentistry in Brisbane, Australia and Director of the Centre for Orofacial Regeneration, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation (COR3). He combines this position with part time specialist private practice in periodontics and surgical implant dentistry.  He is a Senior Fellow of the International Team of Implantology (ITI) and currently sits on the Board of the Osteology Foundation and the ITI Research Committee. Sašo has also served as federal president of the Australasian Osseointegration Society (AOS), the Australian Society of Periodontology (ASP) and the International Association for Dental Research (ANZ Division), as well as Chair of the Australian Dental Research Foundation Research Advisory Committee. He has published over 300 papers in the peer-reviewed literature and leads an internationally recognized research group with an interest in oro-dental regeneration and tissue engineering, as well as clinical periodontics and implant dentistry

We are delighted to welcome Marco as the Colgate Eminent Speaker to the 63rd Annual Scientific Meeting of the IADR ANZ Division in Cairns. Marco graduated from the University of Sao Paulo (USP) Faculty of Dentistry, Brazil, with a PhD in Epidemiology from USP and University College London. After almost 20 years in the Department of Public Health at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, in 2012, Marco was appointed Professor and Director of the Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health University in Adelaide, Australia. In 2018, he took a position as a Professor of Dental and Oral Health Research at Griffith University. Currently, he is the Deputy CEO for Research and education, Senior Principal Investigator at the National Dental Research Institute Singapore and Professor and Director of the Academic Clinical Programme Oral Health, Health Services and Systems Research Programme, and SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute, Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore. His research areas of interest include global health, the effectiveness of health-related policies, health services research, big data linkage, health surveillance, fluorides, inequalities in health, life course epidemiology and the relationship between oral health and general health. Marco is a founder member of the International Centre for Oral Health Inequalities Research and Policy (ICOHIRP) based at University College London, United Kingdom, a former member of the Brazilian Commission of Social Determinants of Health and a member of the Global Burden of Metabolic Risk Factors for Chronic Diseases Collaboration, the deputy chair of the Expert Working Group for Fluoride of the Australian and New Zealand Nutrient Reference Values for Fluoride, a member of the Oral Health Expert Group of the Australian Burden of Diseases 2011 and 2015 Studies. He was the President of the International Association for Dental Research Global Oral Health Inequalities Research Network and a member of the Lancet Commission on Oral Health. Marco has been cited among the top 2% of scientists worldwide in 2021 and 2022. He received the 2017 International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Distinguished Scientist Award for Global Oral Health Research. Marco has supervised 40 postgraduate students and authored three books, 15 book chapters, 300 peer-reviewed papers and received more than 20 million AUD in research competitive grants. His work has received over 27,000 citations and an H index of 86.  Marco is the 2023 recipient of the prestigious Singaporean Translational Research Award (STaR).

It is our great privilege to welcome Professor Satoshi Imazato, the 101st president of the IADR (2024-2025), as a plenary speaker at the 2024 IADR Conference in Cairns, presenting a lecture on Bioactive materials for oral health: Present and future. Professor Imazato has been actively involved in IADR for more than 30 years (President of the IADR Dental Materials Group and President of the Japanese Division of IADR, just to name a few) has served within several dental organisations and as an editorial board member for numerous journals, including as a current member of the Journal of Dental Research Editorial Board.

During his 35-year impressive research career, Professor Imazato focused on dental materials/ biomaterials sciences, with one of the highlights being the invention of the world's first antibacterial adhesive system that allows minimally invasive restorative treatment. As a dentist and dental scientist, he has published over 300 highly-cited papers in a variety of fields, including restorative/prosthetic dentistry, cariology, endodontology, pulp biology, and regenerative medicine, and was the recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award (Wilmer Souder Award) in 2020. We are greatly honoured to welcome Professor Imazato and are looking forward to his presentation.
