Mental Health First Aid Training
Introduction
MHFA is the initial assistance given to an individual with a mental health problem before medical treatment can be obtained. It is the help provided to an individual developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves.
Content
Delivered by nb&a group’s accredited instructor, this 12 hour (2 day) Mental Health First Aid Course teaches adults (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to adults who are developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis. Participants will be educated on the signs and symptoms of mental health problems, together with the how, what, when and where to administer first aid in a crisis situation for:
- depression
- anxiety
- psychosis
- substance use disorder
The course uses evidence based research and addresses possible crisis situations arising from these mental health problems with a practical first aid response. Crisis situations covered are suicidal thoughts and behaviours, non-suicidal self-injury, panic attacks, traumatic events, acute psychotic behaviour, aggressive behaviour and severe effects of substance abuse.

Structure
MHFA Training is comprised of four modules, delivered over two days, and totals 12 hours of training. Price includes MHFA Manual, MHFA accreditation, reference card and morning tea - BYO lunch.
