Marcus is most interested in research focusing on improving surgical (vaginal, laparoscopic and robotic) and conservative methods for treating pelvic organ prolapse. Marcus has spent time operating and teaching in Ethiopia and Nepal, and is currently developing a non-surgical prolapse management program for low-resource settings. Vicki has a background in midwifery and neonatal nursing, has completed a Master’s degree in Medical Science (clinical epidemiology and biostatistics) and has a PhD and ongoing research interest is in the area of stillbirth prevention focusing on causes and risk factors and improving data collection.
Vicki’s research interests also include preterm birth prevention which includes systematic reviews on the role of tocolytics for the Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth Group. Paul Fogarty.jpgOrganisation: Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists Position: Senior Vice President MD, FRCOG Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Ulster Hospital Belfast RCOG Senior Vice President, London Doctor Fogarty entered the Northern Ireland postgraduate training programme in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1982, and gained membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1986. He was appointed Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at the Ulster Trust on 1st August 1993 and awarded FRCOG in 1998. Litigation & Risk Management Experience After receiving formal training as an Expert Witness with Bond Solon and Cardiff University Law School in 2005 he now provides expert opinions for both the Plaintiff and Defendants and currently provides 4 reports per month on alleged medical negligence in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. In addition he has received formal training from the RCOG to carry out independent O&G service reviews and carries out reviews of individuals where concerns have been raised. In 2012 he chaired a large Government Committee to produce the a Maternity Strategy for Northern Ireland and in 2014 he was the Lead obstetrician on the review of Critically ill women in Ireland’s maternity units and in 2015 he was a special advisor to a Governmental review of Ireland’s Maternity services
RCOG Experience Dr Fogarty has served the RCOG for over 20 years as an Examiner, Committee member, Committee & working party Chair, Councillor and more recently as an Officer. From 2005 he was a member of Council, three as Treasurer and the last three years as the Senior Vice President.
As The RCOG Senior Vice President he has developed and implemented an RCOG Global Health Strategy. He has undertaken laboratory based research in molecular genetics of ovarian cancer at the University of Southampton (UK) and was awarded MD in 1999
He is currently working as Gynaecological Oncologist at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne, and in Private Practice at Epworth Eastern Hospital and Cabrini Hospital.
He is currently a member and past Secretary (2006-2011) of the Australian Society of Gynaecologic Oncologists , member of the Australian and New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group, and member of the International Society of Gynaecological Cancer.
He was the first gynaecologist in Australia to embrace robotic surgery, undertaking the first robotic surgery for endometrial cancer in 2007 and has now completed more than 350 robotic cases.
He has spoken at national and international meetings and facilitated workshops on robotic gynaecological surgery in Australia and USA. He was invited faculty for the World Robotic Gynecology Congress IV and the International Society for Gynecologic Endoscopy Meeting in Florida 2012.
He was the first gynaecologist in Australia to be accredited as a robotic surgical proctor, and is still actively involved in proctoring gynaecologists and gynaecological oncologists who are learning robotic surgery.
