Pierre.Bradley_square.jpg Position: Specialist Anaesthetist Dr Pierre Bradley is a Specialist at The Alfred, an adjunct senior lecturer at Monash University and member of Anaesthetic Services His areas of sub-speciality interest include neurosurgery anaesthesia, vascular anaesthesia, interventional radiology, endocrine surgery, trauma, simulation education and risk management. Pierre is a British graduate. Following training time in general medicine and emergency medicine, he joined the Wellington anaesthetic and intensive care rotation in New Zealand. He completed his simulation fellowship in Melbourne. He is actively involved in anaesthetic critical incident assessments, advisory and review boards, committee work, grant reviews, national standards, technology development and is a BJA reviewer. He lead the development of the Epworth Difficult Airway Trolley. He chaired the ANZCA Airway Management Working Group, co-authored the ANZCA Airway Assessment booklet, develop an iPhone App on AFOI Topicalisation and is the past chair of the ANZCA/ASA/NZSA Airway Management SIG. He has established and been involved in many national and international airway courses and was an invited expert at the inaugural World Airway Management Meeting in Dublin 2015. He divides his time between The Alfred, private practice and transporting his children to different sporting events. Michelle Caldecott_2019.jpg Organisation: Epworth Health Care / Austin Health / Melbourne Lung and Sleep Position: Respiratory and Sleep Disorders Specialist Dr Michelle Caldecott graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1993 and then went on to complete her specialist training in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne. Michelle has around 20 years’ experience in treating respiratory and sleep disorders in both the public and private sectors. Her private practice is based at the Epworth Hospital in Richmond, where she utilises the sleep laboratories and also performs flexible bronchoscopy. Michelle is joint Director of Melbourne Lung and Sleep Specialists, incorporating the Epworth lung function laboratory. She also holds senior staff specialist positions at Austin Health and with the Victorian Respiratory Support Service (VRSS). Michelle has also recently been appointed Director of the Internal Medicine Clinical Institute across Epworth sites. Whilst involving herself in the development of organisational frameworks focussing on patient advocacy, clinical governance and peer review, Michelle maintains a strong clinical focus, which places her in an ideal position to present this workshop. Conroy_Myles_square.jpg Organisation: Epworth HealthCare Position: Anaesthetist Dr Myles Conroy works as an anaesthetist at Epworth Geelong. He has held a senior staff specialist position at University Hospital Geelong for 11 years and is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Deakin University. His interests include regional anaesthesia, perioperative analgesia, acute pain services, orthopaedic and obstetric anaesthesia, and anaesthesia for major abdominal surgery. He established and ran acute pain services for Barwon Health, one of the first to have its own outpatient clinic. Myles has lectured at many national conferences on ultrasound-guided trunk blocks, perioperative pain management, and perioperative coronary stent management. He resides on the Bellarine Peninsula and is a keen surfer, fisherman, coffee roaster and home brewer! She graduated from the University of Melbourne and completed her specialty training for nephrology in 2013. She was trained at Western Health and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Currently, she is completing her postgraduate study in Masters of Public Health with the University of Sydney. She has great interest in improving the health of the population especially in the area of early detection and management of chronic kidney disease, hence her decision to pursue further studies in public health. Hoi.Alberta_Square.jpg Organisation: Epworth HealthCare Position: Rheumatologist Associate Professor Alberta Hoi is a rheumatologist, leading lupus expert and translational researcher in Australia. Her research focusses on disease predictors and outcomes, registry design and implementation, quality of care and patient-centred interactions. She has received her undergraduate medical degree from Melbourne University (1996), and completed a doctoral of philosophy in immunology on a NHMRC scholarship from Monash University. She is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physician and member of the Australian Rheumatology Association (ARA). Her current clinical activities include seeing patients at Monash Lupus Clinic, where she serves as the Clinic Head, as well as Complex Rheumatology Clinic at Monash Health, and Autoimmune Clinic at Austin Health. She is a chief investigator and senior research fellow at the Centre for Inflammatory Diseases, School of Clinical Sciences Monash University, and pivotal in the successful roll out of the Australian Lupus Registry & Biobank, a national disease registry that serves as the backbone of a number of Australian and international projects examining outcomes in SLE. Alberta plays an active role in a number of investigator-initiated SLE studies and clinical trials. In addition to being the chair and custodian of the Australian Lupus Registry & Biobank Steering committee, she is also on the executive committee and a founding member of the Asia-Pacific Lupus Collaboration (APLC). Medicine (Pain Management) Karin studied Medicine at Melbourne University. Her clinical training was undertaken at The Royal Melbourne Hospital where she specialised in Anaesthetics and completed a fellowship year at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Since returning to Melbourne she has worked at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and in private practice as a consultant for more than 10 years before her fascination with Pain Medicine led her to further study in this area. In 2012 she completed speciality training in Pain Medicine, and in addition to her anaesthetic practice works in Acute and Chronic Pain Management at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Royal Women’s Hospital and as a resource to her colleagues at Parkville Anaesthesia when dealing with patients with complex pain. He has extensive experience in clinical trials of therapies for osteoporosis, Paget’s disease of bone, diabetes and dyslipidemia management. He is Director of the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the University Hospital Geelong and Chair of the Therapeutics Committee of the Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society. He has over 180 publications in the peer reviewed literature. He is the lead author of Cardiac Society of Aust & NZ guidelines on Coronary CT and Calcium Scoring. He graduated from the University of Melbourne and completed Physician & Cardiology training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. After which he undertook a further 6 years of subspeciality training including an interventional fellowship and PhD research at the Royal Adelaide Hospital as an NH & MRC scholar. He helped establish and was Cardiologist in charge of the Cardiac CT service at Royal Adelaide Hospital for 2 years. Gary completed a postgraduate fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and was a faculty member of Harvard Medical School, USA. He is a Senior Fellow of the University of Melbourne and is active in teaching medical students. Nimo.bill.jpg Organisation: Epworth HealthCare Position: Deputy Director, Richmond Emergency Department Associate Professor Bill Nimo (Vasilios Nimorakiotakis) MBBS FACEM, FACRRM, Dip Mgt is the Deputy Director at Epworth Emergency Department. He graduated 25 years ago and works as a specialist in Emergency and Retrieval Medicine. He is the Associate Dean of the Epworth Clinical School. He also has a special interest in toxinology which is a subspecialty in medicine that looks at how humans are affected by all animals that bite and stings. Additionally, he works as a retrieval specialist in Queensland with Retrieval Services Queensland (RSQ). He has a passion for teaching both at the undergraduate and post graduate level and is currently the ambulatory clinical Associate Dean (Ambulatory) for the Epworth clinical school. Recently he has developed an interest in the use of technology in medicine and with a scholarship awarded last year with Damian Claydon-Platt went on a trip to the USA to see how augmented and virtual reality is being used in healthcare. His main interest, however, is his family which includes his wife, Cherie and his three awesome children, Isabelle, Luca and Noah. Simon works full time in private practice in Anaesthesia. He has interests in developing improved post-surgical analgesia pathways and enhanced recovery of patients. He is involved with the Australian Society of Anaesthetists and is on the Professional Issues in Anaesthesia Committee (PIAC). He is also involved in overseas aid work with Interplast. Dr Stephen Warrillow.jpg Organisation: Epworth HealthCare Position: Director, Critical Care Clinical Institute Stephen is Director of the Epworth Critical Care Institute and is based at both Epworth Eastern and Austin Health, where he is Director of Intensive Care. He is currently President of the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society (ANZICS) and is Convenor of the 2019 World Congress of Intensive Care to be held in Melbourne. Stephen is an active clinical educator and has examined for the RACP and CICM. His research interests include critical care hepatology and he is also involved in improving clinical governance, complex communication and training. |
