It’s really easy to underestimate the power of picturebooks, but in this pair of workshops we will explore how powerful they really are. In an introductory Zoom session we will explore how they can be used across age groups and the curriculum; in the second 3 hour session we will dive deeper, exploring dual language picturebooks featuring English and Te Reo Māori.

In this online workshop you will be introduced to the power of picturebooks for use in your classroom. We will begin by briefly exploring the picturebooks format and its history, and then examine and discuss how picturebooks can be used across the curriculum from primary to secondary school, in ways which both reflect the identities of children in your class, and allow them entry into the worlds of others.

Picturebooks which incorporate English and Māori can be powerful tools in the classroom.
In this workshop we will learn about a range of types of dual language picturebooks which incorporate both Te Reo Māori and English, exploring and experiencing the ways in which they can be used in the classroom to support affirmation of identity, awareness of other worlds, and language learning. There will be many books to explore and share, as well as a book list to take away at the end of the session.
