Organisation: University of Southern California

Dr. Aron is an expert in robotic, laparoscopic, and belly-button surgery for diseases of the adrenal, kidney, ureter, bladder and prostate. Dr. Aron has received training in urology at premier institutions in India, Australia and the United States. He received fellowship-training in advanced laparoscopy and robotics at the Cleveland Clinic under Dr. Inderbir Gill, the world leader in minimally invasive urological surgery.

Dr. Aron comes to USC from the Cleveland Clinic, where he served on the Urology Faculty as a laparoscopic and robotic specialist. Dr. Aron has received numerous acclaimed awards including the GB Ong Medal from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, as well as several awards for his scientific presentations and surgical videos at the American Urological Association Congress. Dr. Aron has published extensively (>150 publications) and serves as referee for six leading urological journals, including Editorial Board appointments for two journals.

Dr. Aron has played a pioneering role in the development of robotic kidney surgery, single incision laparoscopic and robotic belly button surgery, as well as research in NOTES transvaginal nephrectomy. Dr. Aron has been invited to various national and international institutions to demonstrate minimally invasive and belly button laparoscopic surgery.

Organisation: University of Southern California

Professor Mihir M. Desai is Professor of Urology and Director of the Center for Robotics at the USC Institute of Urology at the University of Southern California. Professor Desai was previously Director of the Center of Endourology at the Cleveland Clinic. Professor Desai’s field of expertise includes robotic and laparoscopic oncology and new technologies.

Professor Desai is an internationally renowned expert in the field of robotic oncologic surgery. He has made pioneering contributions in the fields of robotic radical cystectomy and intracorporeal urinary diversion. He has led the effort at USC to standardize the completely intracorporeal technique of urinary diversion including orthotopic neobladder and ileal conduit procedures. He has also made significant innovations in robotic partial nephrectomy, robotic surgery for advanced renal cell carcinoma including caval thrombectomy and robotic surgery for high-risk prostate cancers. Professor Desai’s pioneering work in developing novel technology includes novel flexible robotic platforms, natural orifice surgery (NOTES) and single-port (scarless “belly-button”) laparoscopic surgery for various urologic conditions. Professor Desai has won a total of 35 awards pertaining to his innovation and research including the prestigious Arthur Award conferred by the Endourologic Society in 2012, Endourology Society Essay Contest (2001-2003), and American Urological Association Video Awards (2001-2009). Professor Desai has published over 200 manuscripts in peer-reviewed literature with an H-index of 37.

Professor Desai serves Associate Editor of Urology and on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Endourology. He is co-editor of the recently launched VideoUrology Section of the Journal of Endourology. Professor Desai has been invited visiting Professor to many Institutions and Societies world-wide.

Organisation: St Vincent’s hospital Sydney

Associate Professor Phillip Brenner is one of Australia’s leading Urologists; he is one of the few Australian urologists to be specifically trained in the treatment of urological cancers, particularly prostate and kidney cancer.

Associate Professor Brenner completed his Fellowship training in urological cancer surgery at Memorial Sloan - Kettering Cancer Centre in New York, the foremost cancer centre in the world. After completing his Fellowship, Dr Brenner trained in centres throughout the United States before returning to St Vincent’s Clinic in Sydney, which is now one of the foremost urological and prostate cancer centres in Australia.

Associate Professor Brenner specialises in the minimally invasive (keyhole) treatment of prostate and kidney cancer and has a background of well over 1000 open radical prostatectomy and 1000 laparoscopic procedures, including partial nephrectomy.

He is one of the few specialists to perform da Vinci robotically assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (that is keyhole surgery to remove only the tumour but spare the rest of the kidney). He has achieved excellent results with the da Vinci, now having experience of over 600 patients. He has one of the largest series in the country.

Associate Professor Brenner's research in prostate and kidney cancer is performed in conjunction with the Garvan Institute. He performs cancer surgery at St Vincent’s Private Hospital.
