How to Apologise
In public life, business, at work, and in our personal lives, we've become increasingly hesitant to apologise to those who we have wronged or hurt, fearing the perceived vulnerability or loss of power that may accompany admitting fault. This hesitancy often leads us to resort to pseudo apologies that fail to pass the "sincerity sniff test", offer our regret too late – or in many cases, avoid apologies altogether. However, genuine apologies can serve as bridges to reconciliation and restore trust.
This session will identify flaws in our existing approach before delving into the intricate dynamics of delivering heartfelt apologies. Participants will gain practical strategies and techniques to navigate through discomfort and deliver sincere apologies, fostering empathy, accountability, and healing in both personal and professional relationships.

What I’ve learned about cleaning working as a crime scene cleaner
She used to be squeamish opening a can of tuna, but now Kellie Polaschek cleans crime scenes and hoarder homes for a living.
She has been a crime scene cleaner in her family's forensic cleaning business for many years. Think of the goriest thing you can - and they’ve cleaned it.
Whether it’s crime scenes, hoarder homes, jail incidents, rail accidents, unattended deaths or even biological hazards, some of the same rules apply to crime scene cleaning as they do home or workplace cleaning.
Crime scene cleanup is a process that involves removing biological materials and restoring damaged materials after a violent crime while showing compassion to the people who might be affected by them. Kellie will relate what she's learned over 10 years that can help everyday Aussie households and workplaces.

Stirring the Pot: Medicinal Cannabis Controversies and the Insurance Industry
Medicinal cannabis poses some interesting and complex issues for both employers and the insurance industry.
More than a million Australians are now prescribed cannabis-based medicines with chronic pain, anxiety and insomnia the leading indications for use. Patients report a high degree of satisfaction with these medicines and a significant improvement in their quality of life. Oddly, however, the clinical trial evidence supporting the efficacy of these medicines remains patchy at best and many pain specialists remain sceptical around their use. On the other hand, recent evidence from the laboratory suggests that cannabis-based molecules can extend lifespan.
Cannabis-based medicines have the capacity to impair the performance of safety-sensitive tasks in the workplace, including driving. Employees using these medicines are likely to give positive urinary drug tests for THC and to also fail roadside drug tests. Test cases are currently before the courts with major implications for the mining and transportation industries.
This session will focus on current Medicinal Cannabis use in Australia and how to best resolve current issues affecting the medical profession and the workplace.
