Adrian has worked as a statistician for more than 22 years, working for the pharmaceutical industry and universities. He is an NHMRC senior research fellow and conducts research on research funding and the use of statistics in medical research. His main goal is to make life easier for scientists, so that they can improve all our lives.

A Postdoctoral Fellow at the Restoring Invisible and Abandoned Trials initiative at the Pharmaceutical Health Services Research department at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. She has a broad background in medical science and public health, with specific training in research on research (known as meta-research). Her research aims to strengthen the regulation of clinical research and to promote open research, making science more reliable, trustworthy, verifiable, transparent, and robust. She did her first postdoctoral fellowship in research integrity and transparency at the Collaboration for Research Integrity and Transparency at the Yale Law School, School of Medicine and School of Public Health, and at the Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation at the Yale School of Medicine.  Anisa received her doctorate from the Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. The title of her thesis was: Towards a culture of open science and data sharing in health and medical research. 

Assistant Professor at Bond University, with background in epidemiology (MSc) and health technology assessment (PhD). Her research interests focus mainly on evidence syntheses – in particular conducting systematic reviews, and developing the methods for conducting them better and faster. She co-invented (together with colleagues) the 2weekSR process, which decreases the average time to completion for a systematic review from 67 weeks to approximately 2 weeks, and works on systematic review automation, so we can work more efficiently and with fewer errors. 

Research Associate Dept. of Zoology. Expertise covers evolutionary ecology of bonding, life-history trade offs, evidence synthesis, and data and code standards. Antica is one of the pioneers in studying and promoting Open Science practices in ecological and evolutionary research. Much of her current work is dedicated to meta-research. She hopes that meta-research and Open Science will help ecology to solve issues in the research and publishing systems, increase diversity of researchers, and thus improve the scope, reach, and value of research.  

Antica is co-founder and executive committee member of SPI-Birds (www.spibirds.org) and SORTEE (https://www.sortee.org/). She is also on the advisory board of the FAIRsFAIR project (https://www.fairsfair.eu/advisory-board/egfc) and Open Knowledge maps (https://openknowledgemaps.org/team).  

Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Open Science (http://cos.io/) that operates the OSF (http://osf.io/)--a collaborative management service for registering studies and archiving and sharing research materials and data. COS is enabling open and reproducible research practices worldwide. Brian is also a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Virginia. He received his Ph.D. from Yale University in 2002. He co-founded Project Implicit (http://projectimplicit.net/), a multi-university collaboration for research and education investigating implicit cognition--thoughts and feelings that occur outside of awareness or control. Brian investigates the gap between values and practices, such as when behavior is influenced by factors other than one's intentions and goals. Research applications of this interest include implicit bias, decision-making, attitudes, ideology, morality, innovation, barriers to change, open science, and reproducibility. In 2015, he was named one of Nature's 10 and to the Chronicle for Higher Education Influence list.

A PhD in computer science and a MS in applied mathematics from the University of Grenoble.  He is a tenured associate-professor in computer science since 2001 and at the head of the Information Systems research team (Sigma-team) at the Grenoble Informatics Laboratory, France. His research interest (+90 publication entries) include large scale data management and text analysis. His work on text—mining and automatic detection of bogus scientific paper, has led to retractions or withdrawals of more than hundred of computer science and bio-medical publications.  For this work, he has been invited to many venues around the world and was honoured in the rank of Knight of the order of the french academic palms. He created the "scigen detection" and "seek&blastn" softwares, participated to the "Problematic Paper Screener" website and did also create Ike Antkare, a fictitious scientist, that had once (dixit Google Scholar) an astonishing h-index. 

Co-Founder and Director of PREreview, a fiscally sponsored project of Code for Science and Society. PREreview’s mission is to bring more equity and transparency to the evaluation of research content, giving systematically excluded researchers better ways to find, train, and contribute to peer review. Daniela holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Oregon Health & Science University during which she studied mechanisms of auditory processing in mammals, and she is a former Mozilla Fellow for Open Science 2018/2019. Senior scientist, Clinical Epidemiology Program, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Director of the Centre for Journalology. Also Professor, School of Epidemiology and Public Health, University of Ottawa, where he holds a University Research Chair. Dr. Moher is an associate director of the International Congress on Peer Review and Scientific Publication. Dr. Moher received an MSc in epidemiology and PhD in clinical epidemiology and biostatistics. Dr. Moher is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and the Royal Society of Canada.

A Senior Non-Clinical Lecturer in the Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences at the University of Edinburgh. She is specialised in the validity of preclinical research and a passionate advocate for open science. Her research interests are in the use of meta-research approaches (research on research) to drive improvements in the validity, transparency and reproducibility of primary research using laboratory models of human diseases. Her work has informed laboratory practice guidelines, editorial policy and clinical trials design. 

Emily is the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of BMJ Open Science, on the managing board of PCI Registered Reports and convenor of CAMARADES - an international collaboration that supports, advances and undertakes systematic reviews of preclinical research.

Assistant Professor in the Department of Theoretical Philosophy at the University of Groningen. His research falls in the domains of philosophy of science, social epistemology, and philosophy of cognitive science. Felipe works on understanding how the social organization of research activities affects research outcomes. His recent work studies how incentive structures influence scientific self-correction in the social and behavioural sciences. He also organizes workshops to foster conversations involving metascientists, practicing scientists, and philosophers of science. Felipe holds a Ph.D. from the Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology program at Washington University in St. Louis ('16).

Founder of Lightoller LLC, a consultancy providing expertise on early career researchers, with the goal of ensuring that future generations of researchers can reach their potential to solve problems for society. Originally from Northern Ireland, Gary has a Masters in Chemistry and PhD in Oncology from the University of Cambridge, U.K. He carried out postdoctoral research at Boston Children’s Hospital then Tufts University and helped organize a symposium in Boston in 2014 to give a voice to early career researchers (resulting in the White Paper, “Shaping the Future of Research: a perspective from junior scientists”). In 2016 he co-founded and became Executive Director of the nonprofit “Future of Research'', and since 2019 he has worked as a consultant focusing on advising institutions on how to better support future generations of researchers, and to provide early career researchers with tools and strategies to effect change. For a number of years he has worked on the role of early career researchers in journal article peer review, paying particular attention to the hidden yet vital role they play in the process, exposing ghostwriting and the lack of access to authentic training experiences. https://lightoller.org/

Digital Science Professor of Research Policy at the University of Sheffield and Director of the Research on Research Institute (RoRI), an international consortium working to advance transformative research on research systems, cultures and decision-making. Over a 25-year career, in addition to posts at the universities of Sheffield, Sussex and Lancaster, James has worked in think tanks and as director of science policy for the Royal Society, the UK’s national academy. Previously, he chaired the UK’s Campaign for Social Science, and led an independent government review of responsible uses of research metrics, published in 2015 as The Metric Tide. He is a co-founder—and from 2015-2021, was vice-chair—of the International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA). In 2015, he was elected a Fellow of the UK’s Academy of Social Sciences. He serves on the editorial board of the OA journal Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, and tweets @jameswilsdon.

Lecturer at the School of Law at the University of Sydney. Prior to this position, he obtained a PhD from the University of British Columbia and JD from the University of Toronto. He practiced as a litigator in Toronto. Jason studies the use of research and evidence in courts and among law reform bodies. He is especially interested in using insights from metaresearch to ensure that the legal system relies on credible research. 

Director Australian National Centre for Public Awareness of Science. As an academic leader, Joan has had teaching and research roles at the University of Pittsburgh (USA), Imperial College London, and the University of Queensland before coming to the ANU in 2016.  Her research is centred on how knowledge travels across science and society (social epistemology), science communication, and public engagement with science.  She has held research funding from the Australian Research Council  (Discovery and Linkage), the NHMRC (Medical Research Future Fund) and has also been funded by State, Territory, and the Commonwealth Government of Australia. She is active on a number of Editorial Boards for international journals and was Executive Editor of Social Epistemology.  Her recent books include An Ethics of Science Communication (with Fabien Medvecky) and the co-edited volume Science Communication:  A Global Perspective which collects the national stories of science communication from over 40 countries and territories.  She has supervised over 30 PhD students, hundreds of Masters coursework and research students and continues to regularly innovate in classroom and online teaching.  While remaining transfixed by the positive impacts of science, she advocates for critical public engagement with science and helps to create forums where this engagement can meaningfully happen. 

Assistant Professor of Education Policy and Psychology and 21st Century Chair in the Department of Education Reform and also holds a joint (courtesy) appointment in the Department of Psychology. He has held positions at Duke University and Case Western Reserve University and earned his PhD from Vanderbilt University. Broadly he studies education policy through the lens of psychology.

Principal researcher in the Research & Evaluation program at American Institutes for Research (AIR). He is a co-founder and leader of the Methods of Synthesis and Integration Center (MOSAIC) at AIR. Dr. Polanin has extensive experience in quantitative methodology and has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles across education, criminology, public health, and methodology, including more than 20 peer-reviewed, published meta-analyses. Dr. Polanin leads several systematic reviews and meta-analyses. As Principal Investigator (PI) of the National Science Foundation (NSF) project Effects of the Engagement, Exploration, Explanation, Elaboration, and Evaluation Instructional Model: Systematic Review and Innovation Through New Meta-Analysis Methodology, he leads a large-scale systematic review and is working to create the first open-source, collaborative relational database specifically for conducting systematic reviews. He is also the Co-PI of two meta-analysis grants sponsored by IES: How Effective are Various Types of College Aid Programs? A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of the Evidence and Exploring Heterogeneity in English Learner Intervention Effects with Meta-Analysis. He is a Co-PI of the IES-funded Meta-Analysis Training Institute,as well as the NSF-funded Modern Meta-Analysis Research Institute. Previously, Dr. Polanin was the PI of two methodological projects to advance the science of research transparency and reproducibility. In 2017, Dr. Polanin won the Emerging Researcher award from the University of California Berkeley’s Berkeley Initiative for Transparency in Social Science. In 2020, he won the Early Career Award from the Society for Research on Educational Evaluation. Dr. Polanin holds a Ph.D. from Loyola University Chicago and completed an IES Postdoctoral Fellowship at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody Research Institute.

A personality psychologist whose substantive research covers a broad range of topics including the effects of birth order position on personality, personality development across the lifespan, and subjective well-being. Julia is an active advocate for open science practices and is particularly interested in transparency in causal inference. For example, how clear is the language that researchers use to describe their findings? To which extent are assumptions transparently spelled out? And how do these practices vary between fields?"

A Professor of Urban Ecology in the School of Ecosystem and Forest Sciences at The University of Melbourne.  She has a deep affinity with frogs, and research interests that span urban ecology, amphibian ecology, conservation biology, animal behaviour, field-survey methods and ecological ethics.  In 2016, she published Ecology of Urban Environments (Wiley Blackwell), a text book for upper-level undergraduate and Masters students that provides an accessible introduction to urban ecology, using existing ecological theory to identify generalities in the complexity of urban environments.  Kirsten’s current research projects focus on the impacts of urban noise on acoustic communication in birds and frogs; the ecological costs and benefits of artificial wetlands in urban landscapes; community ecology in cities; and practical ways in which humans can better share the urban environment with other species.  She is also a committed science communicator, and co-convenes the Science Communication Research Chapter of the Ecological Society of Australia.

A post-doctoral fellow with the Knowledge Translation Program at Unity Health Toronto, Canada. She is currently undertaking research examining equity in academic reward and publishing, supported by a fellowship from the Canadian Institutes for Health Research. Her research to date has focused on optimizing research transparency to reduce research waste and she has published over 70 articles in this area. Dr. Shamseer led the development of the extensively-used Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic review and Meta-Analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P 2015) guideline (cited over 11000 times, Scopus), and also led early, extensive research characterising “predatory” publishing during her PhD. 

An accredited statistician (AStat) and past president of the Statistical Society of Australia Queensland branch, Lee is a Biostatistician for the Research Methods Group at QUT. Her role includes advising and collaborating with scientists and clinicians in statistics and research.  She contributes to a broad range of projects with strengths including cancer research, clinical trials, quality improvement, and has successfully gained over $3 million in funding throughout her career.  Lee is currently completing a PhD in Meta-Research focusing on statistical quality and reproducibility in health research. This project explores current practices and identifies common statistical misconceptions and errors made by researchers using linear regression models.

Reproducible Research Oxford (RROx) Coordinator, promoting open research practices across all disciplines at the University of Oxford. She also acts as the UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN) local network lead at Oxford. Malika is a cofounder, a current member of the board of directors, and the current chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee of the Society for Open, Reliable, and Transparent Ecology and Evolutionary biology (SORTEE). She holds a PhD in Behavioural Ecology from the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology.

A professor of quantitative ecology with a PhD on stochastic population ecology, he is also Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Melbourne. His research focuses on ecological modelling, using mathematical and statistical methods to help understand ecological systems, and develop methods that assist with environmental management. He teaches in various areas related to Ecology and Environmental Science, and is interested in better quantitative education of students, with a particular interest in statistical education in ecology and biology more generally.

An academic philosopher whose research analyzes the social structure of science using a combination of methods from philosophy, economics, mathematics, and statistics. His recent work focuses on the epistemic consequences of scientists’ decisions regarding journal publications. How and why do scientists choose to share a given result rather than keeping it secret? How do scientists make the tradeoff between speed and accuracy in deciding how long to work on a project before attempting to publish it? What are the epistemic effects of revealing to journal editors identifying information about the authors of submitted papers? How can peer review be biased even when individual editors and reviewers are not biased? What role does peer review play in the social structure of science, and how can this be improved?

PhD student. As part of her dissertation work, she led a project that aimed to quantify the reproducibility of a research literature, i.e. research published on the topic of "social learning". Currently, she is working on addressing questions about the role of authors, collaboration networks and institutions in facilitating reproducibility, within the same literature. She is generally is interested in exploring how the concepts of reproducibility, replicability, and reliability can practically be applied to guide research practices in the evolutionary behavioural sciences, specifically evolutionary anthropology.

Rose has a background in behavioural ecology, using systematic reviews and multilevel models to study behavioural variation and cares about improving the reliability of academic research. Rose is currently working on committees for the Society for Open, Reliable, and Transparent Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and the Association for Interdisciplinary Meta-Research and Open Science.

Professor of Science, Technology and Innovation Studies and Scientific Director at CWTS, Leiden University, and Co-Chair of the Research on Research Institute (RoRI). Sarah specializes in social studies of research evaluation, which she considers in relation to epistemic cultures, knowledge infrastructures, valuation processes, and roles of research in and for society. She has a strong international public academic presence with global outreach activities in science policy, speaking frequently on the topic of research evaluation and metrics uses. She recurrently acts as expert advisor in European and global science policy initiatives. Most recently, she was invited to represent the Netherlands in a high-level UNESCO Expert Group to write a global recommendation on Open Science. Her present research is funded by a grant from the European Research Council (ERC). Her team regularly collaborates in research consortia funded by the European Commission’s Framework programmes and national research councils across Europe and the UK.

Professor of Evolutionary Biology and Synthesis at Evolution & Ecology Research Centre, School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences, UNSW, Sydney. Shinichi's group synthesises ecological and evolutionary evidence using cutting-edge statistical methodologies, and also they develop such methodologies for evidence synthesis (http://www.i-deel.org/). Many of Shinichi's group members are the founding members of SORTEE (Society for Open, Reliable Ecology and Evolutionary biology; https://www.sortee.org/). Dr Turner leads research developing and evaluating methods for living evidence syntheses, including living systematic reviews and living guidelines; and translating synthesised evidence into improved healthcare practice and policy.

Australian Research Council Future Fellow and an Associate Professor at Deakin University, Geelong, Victoria, Australia. Timothy’s research lab is based at Deakin’s Queenscliff Marine Lab, where the facilities enable a breadth of experimental research examining the impacts of environmental change on the eco-physiology of fishes.  Timothy’s interest in open science and research integrity evolved surreptitiously throughout his career, as he encountered a higher-than-anticipated incidence of questionable (and blatantly nefarious) research practices.  He is very keen to contribute to improving the state of science in his field and beyond.  Lab website: www.clark-lab.com
