From the General Manager

Thank you to Members for your resilience and compliance during the now lifted lockdown.

You will find your Membership Subscription Renewal Notices in your inboxes very soon. I would like to thank Members in advance for paying their subscription fees on time. You will notice that there have been no increase to subscription fees this year, something we are proud of.

The QMTS & Yachtshare Twilight Match Racing Series held their finals last Friday. Congratulations to the winners. The Twilight series was terrifically received and well enjoyed by all involved. We hope this will encourage future series of the like in the future.

A reminder to all Members that the Clubhouse and all services will be closed tomorrow for Good Friday, 2 April. This includes Reception, Administration, the Bistro and all hospitality, Marina and Slipway. The Club will be open on Saturday as usual.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the Club and around the Bay for Easter celebrations this weekend.

Kind regards,

Shawn Ket
General Manager

Finn European and World Championships

After almost 16 months away from international competition, it’s time to get back to business.

I write to you all from Dubai, on my way to Portugal for the Finn European and World Championships.

What was just a dream a few short weeks ago, is now a reality and finally, I will get my chance to check in with the rest of the fleet. We are extremely proud of the work we’ve been able to achieve at home and quietly confident with our position going into the European and World Championships in the lead up to the Olympic this year.

It’s impossible to explain in detail the preparation that’ s gone to get to this point, but needless to say, we are going into the final 3 Big Events of this Olympic Campaign with one purpose and one goal.

I’m incredibly thankful for the support from you all individually. 9 years in the Finn and tens of thousands of hours later, I’ve never felt more ready for this challenge.

That’s enough said for now. Time to let the walking do the talking.

Out of Africa Cruise Report

27 - 28 March 2021

Was it an omen? On the Friday, whilst heading out the door, on the way to dinner at the club and the cruise briefing thereafter, the coveted “Charades Cup” was dropped on the floor and its two handles broke off.... What did this mean?

For Quentin and Barbara (promoted on this weekend from Galley Slave to Cruise Captain) this was the first cruising event they had ever hosted and now the cup was all broken....

SCG Lord Howe Island Cruise

1 - 11 April 2021

The time is nearing for the cruising-in-company rally to Lord Howe Island - with only 4 boats remaining out of the original “interested” list of 17. The plan is to leave the Southport Seaway at the High Tide (either 11am or 11pm) on April Fools Day (what could possibly go wrong?)

As a result of several members not being able to go - there is some interest in an Easter Cruise - so if you are interested and would like to arrange something informally - please come along on Friday and / or get in touch with Dean and Sally Johns who are also interested to get out of the marina for at least some of the long weekend!

PCG Easter Bribie Cruise

2 - 5 April 2021

Our destination is initially the Bribie Bridge and then to proceed to further up the Pumicestone Passage to Mission Point. This spot is an extremely protected anchorage and is only accessible by boat. It will be our base for three nights.

For further information or to advise attendance please email P/C Ian: ian.threlfall@mvdestiny.net.

New Boat Wash Zones for Trailerboats

The Marina have installed two hoses on the eastern side of the Trade Sheds for trailerboat hose downs and engine flushes. This has been put in place to reduce the amount of traffic around the main ramp and dinghy hardstand. Users will also find that the new area is well shaded in the afternoon.

RQYS Slipway in High Demand

The RQYS Slipway is currently experiencing a surge in demand, if you are planning to have your boat lifted prior to Easter, the Marina Office highly suggests contacting them and booking in your lift as soon as possible.

07 3393 3554 or
marinaadmin@rqys.com.au

Shared Zones Public Car Park

Members of our community are reminded to not park in trailer designated spaces in the public car park outside of the Squadron. The Department of Transport and Main Roads have received a complaint relating to visitor parking in car/trailer parks and may move to having parking inspectors visit the public carpark and potentially, issue fines.

Visitors may access the single car parks which are the marked blue zones only, Monday to Friday, 8am - 5pm (excluding school & public holidays).

Unwanted Bikes for Canaipa

The Squadron is wanting to acquire pushbikes for use around Canaipa. If you have a pushbike you no longer use or want, please contact the Marina Office on 3393 3554 or email marinaadmin@rqys.com.au.

Thank you to those people who have donated bikes for use at Canaipa. We are still seeking more bikes for member use at Canaipa.
